Ever?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prince George&#8217;s County superintendent John Deasy is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/story\/2008\/09\/30\/ST2008093000009.html\">becoming deputy director of the Gates Foundation<\/a>. The Washington Post article on the topic buries the scandal that enveloped the University of Louisville around Deasy&#8217;s  diploma, awarded after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.courier-journal.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20080911\/OPINION01\/809110358\">one semester of work at the University of Louisville<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.courier-journal.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20080909\/NEWS01\/80910002\">after Deasy&#8217;s former district awarded the center run by the person who later became education dean at Louisville (and Deasy&#8217;s advisor) a six-figure contract<\/a>. There may also be <a href=\"http:\/\/somd.com\/news\/headlines\/2008\/8355.shtml\">other problems with the resume Deasy used in applying to the Prince George&#8217;s position<\/a>. Ouch.<br \/>\nAfter the Franchised Small Schools Initiative and the then-fabulous-but-now-defunded EDIN08 project, this may become one more embarrassment to the Gates Foundation.<br \/>\n(Note to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edexcellence.net\/flypaper\/index.php\/2008\/09\/dont-get-queasy-about-john-deasy\/\">Mike Petrilli<\/a>: Of course Deasy should have due process, and we&#8217;ll see what the University of Louisville does with its review of his diploma. The fundamental problem is <em>not<\/em> about the credential but what you claim is your background.
