{"id":257,"date":"2005-01-14T19:16:05","date_gmt":"2005-01-14T23:16:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shermandorn.com\/wordpress\/?p=257"},"modified":"2005-01-14T19:16:05","modified_gmt":"2005-01-14T23:16:05","slug":"columbia-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shermandorn.com\/?p=257","title":{"rendered":"Columbia University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the burgeoning controversy over Columbia University&#8217;s Middle East and Asian Languages and Cultures (MEALAC) department (allegations that faculty have intimidated students who disagree with them politically, counter-allegations that this is a threat to academic freedom, counter-counterallegations that the counter-allegations are the real threat to academic freedom, etc.), the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fire.org\/\">FIRE<\/a>) has sent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefire.org\/index.php\/article\/5100.html\">an absolutely wonderful letter<\/a> to Columbia President Lee Bollinger.
