{"id":3166,"date":"2011-02-01T16:09:47","date_gmt":"2011-02-01T20:09:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shermandorn.com\/wordpress\/?p=3166"},"modified":"2011-02-01T16:09:47","modified_gmt":"2011-02-01T20:09:47","slug":"cousin-of-senate-bill-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shermandorn.com\/?p=3166","title":{"rendered":"Cousin of Senate Bill 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Florida state Senator Wise has filed <a href=\"http:\/\/flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2011\/0736\/\">Senate Bill 736<\/a>, the first bill to be filed as a successor to last year&#39;s vetoed Senate Bill 6. At a quick run-through, it has performance pay and some state-level evaluation requirements, both of which are more flexible than the language in last year&#39;s Senate Bill 6 and, at least for the evaluation part, has an important section that sunsets in a few years and thus will force the legislature to revisit the issue (a very healthy thing). It eliminates continuing contracts for new hires, which is similar to SB 6 and does not include the three-year contracts that&#39;s in the bill language floated over the past few months by Patricia Levesque. It is also mostly restricted to those issues, unlike the sprawling SB 6.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the past few months, I&#39;d been talking with colleagues and friends about expecting Son of Senate Bill 6. It&#39;s not that close&#8211;more like Cousin of SB 6. Of course,&nbsp;it may well change in committee hearings, on the floor, or in negotiations with the Florida House over whatever bill the lower chamber approves.
