The SAT was not developed to measure &#8220;the overall quality of our primary and secondary schools,&#8221; and you would be hard-pressed to use one datum (the mean derived scale score on any assessment) to distinguish the possible effects of changing curriculum from all sorts of other things, including the exposure to English of new immigrants (at various ages of when teenagers taking the SAT may have come to the U.S.), the early childhood experiences of different cohorts, etc.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>E.D.
