On May 4, I received an e-mail from her asking me to mention the events in my blog, and I&#8217;m guessing she wrote similar e-mails to a bunch of other education bloggers. It worked to some extent, with comments recently in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edspresso.com\/2006\/05\/the_2006_joanne_jacobs_book_to.htm\">edspresso<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/d-edreckoning.blogspot.com\/2006\/05\/russell-byers-charter-school.html\">D-Ed Reckoning<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/mentormatters.blogspot.com\/2006\/05\/joanne-jacobs-is-coming.html\">Mentor Matters<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/weeklyscheiss.blogspot.com\/2006\/05\/joanne-jacobs-et-al.html\">Scheiss Weekly<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/educationwonk.blogspot.com\/2006\/05\/joanne-jacobs-goes-to-washington.html\">Education Wonks<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/dcedublog.blogspot.com\/2006\/05\/joanne-jacobs-book-reading-at-wedj.html\">DC Education Blog<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eduwonk.com\/archives\/2006_05_07_archive.html#114703487607455074\">Eduwonk<\/a>. Only the first three clearly stated that Jacobs had solicited the mention (and <a href=\"http:\/\/d-edreckoning.blogspot.com\/2006\/05\/russell-byers-charter-school.html\">D-Ed Reckoning<\/a> was highly critical of Jacobs&#8217; planned appearance at one school). Let me be clear: I have no problems in general with this publicity. Books are books, the more people read &#8217;em, on the whole, the better, and it&#8217;s common to get friends and colleagues (and, I guess, strangers whose blogs you know of) to recommend books and various events. I&#8217;m just a little surprised at the lack of disclosure by fellow bloggers (several of whom have no problems acknowledging sources).
