{"id":8054,"date":"2015-09-03T08:12:50","date_gmt":"2015-09-03T15:12:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shermandorn.com\/wordpress\/?p=8054"},"modified":"2015-09-03T08:12:50","modified_gmt":"2015-09-03T15:12:50","slug":"mistakes-in-brief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shermandorn.com\/?p=8054","title":{"rendered":"Mistakes in brief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So there&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/cloakinginequity.com\/2015\/09\/01\/dude-really-education-policy-kudos-and-criticism-in-the-same-week\/\">this<\/a> in response to <a href=\"http:\/\/morganpolikoff.com\/2015\/09\/01\/a-brief-post-on-a-disappointing-brief\/\">this<\/a>, which commented on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.networkforpubliceducation.org\/2015\/08\/policy_brief_louisiana\/\">this<\/a>, which itself was a response to a whole lot of 10-year retrospectives on Katrina, some of which are full of motivated reasoning and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/posteverything\/wp\/2015\/08\/31\/how-everyone-is-getting-it-wrong-on-new-orleans-school-reform\/\">some of which<\/a> combine a pretty good empirical base and caution about drawing policy conclusions. ((At first glance, there is <em>far<\/em> too little material on the ten years since Katrina that is historically informed, but that can be remedied.))\u00a0And then the following from <a href=\"http:\/\/relinquishment.org\/2015\/09\/03\/a-debate-within-the-family-can-nola-scale-should-it\/\">this<\/a>: &#8220;reading his post reminded me how much more I enjoy debating within the family rather than debating with folks who will fundamentally oppose [my preferred policy position]\u00a0regardless of what the data says.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>My impression: when I have my wits about me, I let everyone live down their mistakes <em>du jour<\/em>\u00a0because I commit\u00a0plenty of my own.
