Six weeks ago I predicted that Pinellas County schools in Florida would implement the superintendent's proposed mandatory uniform policy, despite the lack of rigorous supporting research. I was wrong. According to the St. Pete Times' reporting, Pinellas is "backing off plans for mandatory uniforms." The school board concluded that the main problem was not the lack of uniform clothing but the lack of decent clothing and is moving in the direction of a modified dress code. Some of it is a bit silly–I'm not sure why the school board wants collared shirts when girls can probably find low-cut collared shirts, and the problem with boys' clothing isn't usually with the neck–but for once a school board appears to have moderated the superintendent's populist push for uniforms.
To round out my week of wrongness, I am now officially predicting that Christine O'Donnell will win a seat in the U.S. Senate and the Texas Rangers will come back from behind to win the World Series, 5-4. What? The World Series is no longer a best-of-nine affair? Those who run Major League Baseball are philistines, I tell you!
